Business plans: why develop a business plan?
Business plans are the vital blueprint for your new company.
As the US Small Business Administration points out - all companies need professional
business plans,
a builder won't begin construction without a blueprint, and neither should the entrepreneur!
Business plans are the fundamental blueprint for your business.
According to the SBA, it "defines your business, identifies your goals, and serves as your firm's resume".
Consultants advising new entrepreneurs will recommend writing business plans, without exception.
However, despite all this good advice, many entrepreneurs are still reluctant to spend the necessary time and energy to put one together.
Excuses for ignoring business plans are many, and include such old favorites as:
- Business Plans: "I don't need a business plan, so there's no point."
- "I have everything in my head, so there's no need to write it down."
- Business Plans: "My marketplace changes too frequently for business plans to be useful."
- "I can't be bothered with all this meaningless bureaucracy."
